The German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur or BNetzA) has unveiled the results of two separate auctions, one for onshore wind energy and the other one for solar photovoltaic (PV), both with a bidding date set for 1 October 2018. These results confirm the trend observed during the first wind-solar mixed tender in the country (April 2018), which was won solely by solar projects.
The wind tender offered a capacity of 670 MW but was under-subscribed as 62 offers with a total capacity of 400 MW were submitted and only 57 bids with a volume of 363 MW were awarded a contract. The value of the submitted bids ranged between €5c/kWh and €6.3c/kWh, with an average bidding price of €6.26c/kWh.
In the solar power auction, which offered 182 MW of capacity, 76 bids were submitted with a total cumulative volume of 551 MW, which means that the auctions was three times oversubscribed. The BNetzA awarded eventually 192 MW to 37 winners, of which more than half went to bidders in Bavaria and Brandenburg. The bidding prices ranged between €3.86c/kWh and €5.15c/kWh (compared with €3.89c/kWh and €4.96c/kWh in the previous round) and the average price stood at €4.69c/kWh (€4.59c/kWh in the previous round).
The BNetzA has launched a combined wind and solar tender for 200 MW - in which onshore wind and solar will compete against each other - with a 2 November 2018 deadline.
