Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum, both based in the United Arab Emirates, have announced the commencement of commercial gas sales from their major expansion project at the Khor Mor gas field in Sulaimani province, Iraq. This expansion increases the field’s production capacity by 50%, marking a step towards improving the electricity supply in the Kurdistan Region (Dana Gas, 15/10/2025).
Delivered eight months ahead of the revised schedule, the "KM 250" facility will add 250 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscf/d), approximately 2.6 bcm/year, of new processing capacity. This represents a 50% increase, boosting Khor Mor’s total output to 750 MMscf/d (around 7.7 bcm/year), according to the company.
- Crescent Petroleum and its affiliate Dana Gas signed an agreement with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in 2007 to develop the region’s gas resources.
- This expansion will strengthen power generation and support industrial growth across the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), supporting the KRG’s “Runaki” initiative aimed at delivering 24-hour electricity and improving supply to other parts of Iraq.
- The plant will produce 7 kb/d of condensate and 460 tonnes per day of LPG, supplementing the existing output of 15.2 kb/d and 1,070 tonnes per day, respectively.
With KM 250 now operational, both companies will focus on the next phase: further appraisal and expansion of the Khor Mor field to unlock additional gas resources for the region and the country.
