Israel approves gas exports to Jordan

The government of Israel has approved gas exports from the Tamar gas field to Jordan. Under the agreement, signed in February 2014, Israel will export 1.8 bcm over a 15-year period (about 120 mcm/year) to bromine factories and Arab Potash company on the Jordanian side of the Dead Sea. Natural gas sales are anticipated to commence as of 2016, once minimal required pipeline infrastructure has been completed. The gas contract is estimated at US$500m.

Noble Energy operates Tamar with a 36% working interest. Other interest owners are Isramco Negev 2 with 28.75%, Delek Drilling with 15.625%, Avner Oil Exploration with 15.625%, and Dor Gas Exploration with the remaining 4%. The Tamar field has an estimated 10 Tcf (283 bcm) of discovered natural gas resources. It recently signed a gas contract with Dolphinus to export at least 5 bcm to Egypt over a 5-year period for around US$1.2bn.
