Gas Natural Fenosa's power generation dropped by 9% in 2013 (Spain)

In 2013, Gas Natural Fenosa generated 34.3 TWh of electricity, a 9.1% drop compared to 2012 (37.8 TWh); the fall is due to a 19.5% decrease in CCGT generation (17 TWh in 2013 compared to 21 TWh in 2012) and a 30% decrease in coal-fired generation in Spain (5.4 TWh in 2013). Hydroelectric output in 2013 was almost triple the 2012 figure, due mainly to considerable precipitation early in the year (4.4 TWh in 2013). The company attained a 20.6% share of the ordinary regime power generation market in 2013, i.e. similar to the 2012 figure (20.7%).

On the gas segment, Gas Natural Fenosa's TPA sales (regulated sales) declined by 2.3% to 191 TWh (196 TWh in 2012). Total gas supply in Spain dropped by 3.8% to 229 TWh, owing to a 6.3% decrease in sales to final customers (decline in gas consumption by CCGT plants, partly offset by a 3.6% increase in supply to third parties).

In Latin America, the group raised its power generation by 5.2% to 19 TWh (+6.7% in Mexico), but its electricity distribution volumes fell by 9% to 16 TWh (-21% in the number of connection points, due to the sale of distribution companies in Nicaragua). Gas sales rose by 9.3% to 230 TWh, thanks to a 31% growth in Brazil and a 6.1% hike in Colombia (+115,000 connection points).
