EVN begins construction of 1,200 MW coal-fired power plant in Vietnam

Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN) has started construction of the Vinh Tan 4 coal-fired power plant in the central province of Binh Thuan, about 230-km east of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. The 1,200 MW project, estimated to cost US$1.36bn, is implemented by four main contractors, including the Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction, Mitsubishi Corporation, Pacific Ocean Engineering JSC and the Power Engineering and Consulting 2 JSC. The first turbine is expected to be commissioned 2017 and the second in 2018.

On February, EVN also began construction on the Thai Binh coal-fired power plant (600 MW) in the northern province of Thai Binh that is also expected to generate its first power in 2017.

EVN is expecting to finish construction of Vinh Tan Port by the end of March 2014 to facilitate coal transport from the northern province of Quang Ninh to meet coal demand for the operation of the Vinh Tan 4 plant.
