Estonia's renewable power generation fell by 10% in 2013

According to data released by Statistics Estonia, power generation in Estonia grew by nearly 11% in 2013 to 13 TWh, while renewable power generation fell by more than 10%. The share of biomass in the power mix had been increasing steadily over the 2009-2012 period but wood consumption fell noticeably in 2013; on the contrary, wind power generation increased by 22% in 2013, accounting for 40% of total renewable generation. A mild winter contributed to a 1% drop in domestic consumption and enabled power exports to soar (+27%).

Wood pellet production increased more than 1.5 times in the last five years: in 2013, it rose by nearly 15%, with more than 90% of the production exported (61% to Denmark and 20% to Sweden).

In 2013, oil shale production increased by 9% to 20 Mt, mainly to supply power plants (their consumption grew by 16%). Shale oil production rose by 4%; more than 85% of the production was exported, mainly to Belgium (20%), the Netherlands (20%) and Sweden (18%).
