E.ON reinforces its position in France through its swap of generation capacities with EDF and EnBW

In October 2009, E.ON agreed on an extensive swap of generation capacities with EDF and EnBW.

E.ON is receiving drawing rights from 800 MW of nuclear power capacity in France from EDF. E.ON also acquires EDF's 35% stake in SNET and thus become the sole owner of the company.

In return, EnBW can in future obtain power from 800 MW of German nuclear power station capacity (drawing rights). EnBW is also taking over E.ON's 50.4% stake in the Rostock coal-fired power station (256 MW) and will receive power from the Buschhaus coal-fired power plant (159 MW).

This swap is part of the commitment made by E.ON to the EU Commission in 2008 to sell about 5,000 MW of its generation capacity and also its transmission system network in Germany to promote competition in the German energy market. To date, E.ON has agreements to sell more than 4,400 MW of power station capacity in Germany to European companies including Statkraft, Electrabel and Verbund.

Following approval by the relevant antitrust authorities, E.ON, EDF and EnBW have completed the swap of generation capacities in January 2010.
