Engie has released its 2019 results, posting a 4% increase in its revenues, to €60.1bn, thanks to an increased nuclear availability that raised nuclear power generation by 32% to nearly 42 TWh in 2019. In 2019, Engie generated 417 TWh (222 TWh in net ownership), including 22 TWh in France, 43 TWh in Belgium, 63 TWh in the rest of Europe and over 290 TWh in the rest of the world (including 157.5 TWh in the Middle East, South and Central Asia and Turkey and nearly 60 TWh in Brazil). Gas-fired power generation accounted for the largest part of the power mix (61%), followed by hydropower (17%) and nuclear (10%).
At the end of 2019, Engie's installed capacity stood at 96.8 GW, i.e. 4 GW less than in 2018. The group commissioned 3.8 GW of new capacity, of which 2.1 GW were installed in America (including 662 MW of coal-fired capacity), 0.9 GW in Africa and Asia and 0.9 GW in Europe and other countries. Meanwhile, Engie sold 5.7 GW of capacity (including 3.4 GW of coal-fired capacity in Germany, Thailand and the Netherlands and 2 GW of gas-fired capacity in Thailand) and shut down 2.2 GW of thermal and nuclear capacity. Engie has another 6.3 GW of capacity under construction, of which 4.3 GW should be commissioned in 2020 (993 MW in 2021 and 953 MW in 2022).
In France, Engie sold 39 TWh of electricity (+0.8%) and 83 TWh of gas (-5.8%), and distributed 275 TWh of gas (-0.9%).
