US pipeline operator Energy Transfer has announced the suspension of its Lake Charles LNG export facility in Louisiana, US (Energy Transfer press release, 18/12/2025). The company took the decision as a strategic move to use its capital on its “significant backlog of natural gas pipeline infrastructure projects” that it believes to have higher risk/return profiles.
The proposed Lake Charles LNG export terminal was planned to have a capacity of 16.5 Mt/year (three 5.5 Mt/year liquefaction trains) and it was expected to start commercial operations by 2028.
