EDP Renewables increases power generation by 11% to 41 TWh in 2025

EDP Renewables, an EDP subsidiary, has reported its 2025 results, announcing a 50% increase on its recurring net profit (EDP Renewables press release, 25/02/2026). The company reached a portfolio of almost 20.4 GW across Europe, the Americas and the Asia Pacific region, an increase of 2 GW compared to 2024. Most of the new capacity was installed in North America (53%) and Europe (32%), with solar representing 48% of the total additions (including 500 MW installed in the US and 300 MW in Europe, along with its first two solar projects in Germany). The company has also doubled its BESS capacity to 0.6 GW. At the end of 2025, it add 1.6 GW under construction.

Electricity generation increased by 11% to 40.6TWh, spurred by North America (+16%, reaching 57% of the total power generation) and South America (+22% to 10%). Power generation remained stable in Europe at 28% of EDP Renewables' total generation.

The company's increase in its net profit is due to “strong and persistent cost-control strategy” and a divestiture from older renewable plants and cost reduction associated with operations in Colombia (announced exit in 2024) and Romania. Total capital investiture declined by 35% to EUR2.2bn, of which 58% were directed to North America, 27% to Europe, and 7% each to South America and Asia Pacific.
