DEWA invites expressions of interest for a 900 MW solar park in Dubai (UAE)

The United Arab Emirates’ Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has invited expressions of interest (EoI) from developers to build and operate the 900 MW phase 6 of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, located in the south of the Dubai Emirate.

The deadline for sending the EoIs has been set for 10 October 2022 and the power generated by the project will be purchased by DEWA under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA). The phase 6 facility, which is being developed as an Independent Power Project (IPP), is expected to be fully commissioned by the third quarter of 2025.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar Park, when completed in 2030, is expected to reach a total of 5 GW of solar capacity. The current installed capacity at the solar park is 1.6 GW, and 1.2 GW of solar PV and CSP projects are currently under development.

The construction of the 950 MW phase 4 is 90% completed. The AED15.8bn (US$4.3bn) phase 4 is being developed by project company Noor Energy 1, controlled by Dewa (51%), ACWA Power (25%), and the Chinese Silk Road Fund (24%). The 900 MW phase 5 is expected to be operational in 2023. It is being develop by DEWA (60%) and a consortium led by ACWA Power company and the Gulf Investment Corporation for AED2bn (US$570m).
