China Three Gorges Group (CTG) has commissioned its 1.7 GW Zhejiang Tiantai pumped-storage hydropower project in Taizhou, in the Zhejiang province of China (Harbin press release, 26/06/2026). The project features four 425 MW units developed by Harbin Electric Motor, is the largest pumped-storage power plant in China by single-unit capacity and has a rated water head of 724 meters, the highest in the world. It is expected to generate 1.7 TWh/year of renewable electricity.
