Vattenfall has started the construction of the 605 MW Kriegers Flak offshore wind plant in the Danish part of the Baltic Sea, which is set to enter commercial operation before the end of 2021. The park will entail 72 turbines rated 8.4 MW each. In 2018, the Swedish energy group made the final investment decision on the offshore wind plant. Vattenfall won the tender to build the project in 2016 with a price of DKK 0.372/kWh (€49.9c/kWh).
A portion of the produced power will be sold to the Danish pharmaceutical group Novo Nordisk and to the industrial enzymes producer Novozymes under the framework of a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA). Kriegers Flak will be built a few kilometres from the German offshore wind farm Baltic-2, which means that the German and Danish transmission system operators 50Hertz and Energinet will use this opportunity to connect their respective networks.
