The Clean Growth Plan aims to reduce GHG emissions by 80% compared with 1990 levels (UK)

The UK government has releases the Clean Growth Plan (CGP), which explains how the UK will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050 when compared to 1990 levels, through a process of setting 5-year caps on greenhouse gas emissions labelled as "Carbon Budgets". The UK government is unveiling how over £2.5bn have been and will be invested to support low carbon innovation over the 2015-2021 period.

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has set out several measures such as the allocation of up to £10m for innovations to provide low carbon heat in domestic and commercial buildings, £10m to improve the energy efficiency of buildings and £20m for a Carbon Capture and Utilisation demonstration programme. Besides, the BEIS is also eyeing the end of all new conventional petrol and diesel cars and vans sales by 2040. Up to £1bn will be spent to support the take-up of ultra low emission vehicles. Approximately £841m of public funds will be dedicated to innovation in low carbon transport technology and fuels.
