Canadian NEB approves US Jordan Cove LNG gas export license

The Canadian National Energy Board (NEB) has approved an application for a 25 year natural gas export licence to Jordan Cove LNG to export natural gas. The license is for a maximum term amount of 442.68 bcm. The proposed export points include existing natural gas pipelines that cross the Canada/US border near Kingsgate and Huntingdon, British Columbia (Canada). To reach the Jordan Cove facility, western Canadian natural gas will travel via existing pipeline and gas gathering networks to the Malin trading hub located in southern Oregon. From Malin, the proposed Pacific Connector Gas Pipeline will transport natural gas to the Jordan Cove liquefaction terminal.

The NEB permit allows for an export volume of 1.55 Bcf/d (about 44 mcm/d, i.e. 16 bcm/year) for 25 years, translating into 9 Mt/year of LNG export capacity from the Jordan Cove terminal. While the initial liquefaction design capacity of the Jordan Cove facility is 6 Mt/year, an expansion to 9 Mt/year is possible. In December 2011, the US DOE granted Jordan Cove a 30-year export license to FTA countries (up to 9 Mt/year). Jordan Cove LNG is expected to be commissioned in 2019.
