BW Energy approves new offshore projects targeting over 100 kb/d by 2028

Norwegian oil and gas company BW Energy has taken a final investment decision for the Bourdon development in the Dussafu license offshore Gabon, as well as for a campaign of new infill wells in the Golfinho license offshore Brazil. The combined estimated 2P reserves amount to 68 mboe (BW Energy press release, 21/05/2026).

In Gabon, the Bourdon Phase 1 development is expected to target 25 mboe in gross 2P reserves, with first oil planned for the first quarter of 2028. The project includes converting the Akoum rig into a new wellhead platform featuring 12 slots available for wells. The initial production will be delivered by three wells, while the platform is also designed to support future development phases around Bourdon, where additional resources (around 200 mboe) have already been identified.

In Brazil, the Golfinho project holds nearly 50 mboe in 2P reserves and comprises four new wells drilled in proven areas, with first oil expected by the end of 2028. Among these, three wells are located in the Golfinho licence and one in the Camarupim licence, all of which will be tied back to the Golfinho floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel through existing pipeline infrastructure. This development is expected to triple output in the Golfinho area to around 30 kboe/d from 2029.

Through these developments, BW Energy aims to raise its net production target for 2028 by approximately 10%, reaching more than 100 kboe/d. The company expects these projects to help sustain production levels well into the next decade.
