The Brazilian Electricity Trading Chamber (Câmara de Comercialização de Energia Elétrica – CCEE) has approved 51 power projects with a cumulated capacity of 4,980 MW at an average price of R$196.11/MWh (US$76.37/MWh) during the A-5 Auction (Leilão A-5). The plants will have to be operational as of 2019. The winning projects are mainly from wind (36 projects totalling 926 MW), bagasse (6 projects, 327 MW), wood chips (two projects, 283 MW), coal (one 340 MW project), gas (3,059 MW) and small hydropower (three projects, 44 MW). 1,578 MW will be installed in Rio Grande do Sul, followed by Pernambuco (1,238 MW) and Amazonas (583 MW).
The gas-fired power project, Novo Tempo, will be built in Pernambuco by Bolognesi Participaçãoes and will have a capacity of 1,238 MW. The company also plans to develop a 1,238 MW CCGT plant in Rio Grande do Sul (UTERG project). Each unit will consume 3 Mt/year of LNG, requiring the construction of LNG import infrastructures. Bolognesi will use two 14 mcm/d (5.1 bcm/year) FSRUs supplied by Excelerate Energy.
The coal-fired power project will be built by GDF SUEZ (Pampa Sul), which will invest R$1.8bn (US$700m) in the project that could be later expanded to 680 MW. GDF SUEZ will also build the 330 MW Campo Largo wind park in northeastern Brazil for R$1.7bn (US$665m).
