BLT Energy receives approval for its 800 MW/4.8 GWh Red Gully BESS (Australia)

BLT Energy has been granted development approval for an 800 MW/4,800 MWh BESS project in Western Australia to be delivered in phases, the first one adding 400 MW/2,400 MWh of storage capacity. The project will be located next to state-owned utility Western Power’s Regans Terminal and is due for completion in 2027.

The company will now progress to the detailed engineering design and financing for the project’s initial stage. A grid-connection offer and financial close are yet to be secured. The facility will be connected to the South West Interconnected System (SWIS), helping to store surplus renewable energy and discharge it during peak demand periods.
