BayWa r.e. has signed an eight-year service contract with the Danish investment fund Scale Fund for the 137 MW/282 MWh Alfeld BESS located in Lower Saxony, Germany. The system is currently under construction with commercial operation scheduled to start at the beginning of the third quarter of 2026.
It will be used primarily to provide ancillary services, grid stability and security of supply in the future, as wind and solar power rise in volume. This contract represents one of the first external standalone battery assets for BayWa r.e., which had previously operated only its own storage systems within hybrid (solar and wind co-location) projects.
