Australia Pacific LNG gets approval for gas expansion project (Australia)

The Australian Ministry for Resources has approved an expansion of the Australian Pacific LNG project, allowing the company to "construct, operate, decommission and rehabilitate gas field infrastructure within the Surat and Bowen Basins, Queensland" until February 2081 (Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, 20/03/2026).

This allows Australian Pacific LNG to build and operate up to 1,696 coal seam gas production wells and up to 1,545 km of gas or water pipelines in the Action Area, with construction expected to start in 2026. The Surat and Bowen Basins hold the largest proven gas reserves in Australia.

Australia Pacific LNG is a joint venture of ConocoPhillips (47.5%), Origin (27.5%) and Sinopec (25%).
