The Prime Minister of Argentina announced the country will temporarily reduce taxes for biodiesel producers to support the national industry hit by European Union (EU) anti-dumping measures. Since 27 November 2013 the EU has imposed anti-dumping duties on imports of biodiesel from Argentina and Indonesia consisting of an additional duty of on average 24.6% for Argentina and 18.9% for Indonesia. This duty increases are supported by the EU investigation's findings that shown Argentine and Indonesian companies access to raw materials at prices that are artificially low compared to the world market prices available for the EU biodiesel producers. In response to the EU move, Argentina filed a dispute against the EU at the World Trade Organization (WTO) on 20 December 2013, accusing the EU of imposing illegal tariffs on Argentine biodiesel shipments to Europe.
Waiting on the dispute with the EU is resolved, the Argentinian government will order a 22% tax exemption on biodiesel used in thermoelectric plants and a 19% tax exemption on biodiesel for gasoline blends.
