Akaysha Energy commissions a 415 MW/1.66 GWh BESS in NSW (Australia)

Akaysha Energy's 415 MW/1.66 GWh Orana BESS in the central west of New South Wales (Australia) has reached full output and is now listed as operating in Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM) (ReNew Economy, 02/06/2026). The BESS project has a long term offtake agreement with EnergyAustralia.

The project is the third largest BESS in the NEM, after Origin Energy’s 460 MW/1,770 MWh Eraring Battery 1 (commissioned in January 2026) and Akaysha’s 850 MW/1,680 MWh Waratah Super Battery, which is suffering a 12-month delay in commissioning after a transformer failure and currently operates at half of its rated capacity.
