Edify Energy has reached financial close on the Smoky Creek and Guthrie’s Gap solar power project, totalling 720 MWp of solar and 600 MW/2,400 MWh of BESS capacity in Central Queensland (Australia) (Edify Energy press release, 20/05/2026). The project was successfully awarded long-term support under the Australian Government’s Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS).
The project is supported by two long-term solar and battery hybrid services agreements with Rio Tinto, which will purchase 90% of the power and battery storage capacity generated for 20 years, supporting Rio Tinto’s Gladstone aluminium operations. Once operational, it is expected to generate nearly 1.6 TWh/year of dispatchable renewable energy.
