The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced that nearly 2.9 GW of generation capacity is complete or under development at its Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar Park (MBR solar Park). The current capacity at MBR Solar Park is 1.6 GW of photovoltaic power and 1.2 GW of solar PV and CSP projects are currently under development, using the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. Overall, the planned total capacity of the MBR solar park is 5 GW, to be reached by 2030.
According to DEWA, the construction of the 950 MW phase 4 is 90% completed. The AED15.8bn (US$4.3bn) phase 4 is being developed by project company Noor Energy 1, controlled by Dewa (51%), ACWA Power (25%), and the Chinese Silk Road Fund (24%).
The 900 MW phase 5 is expected to be operational in 2023. It is being develop by the Shuaa Energy 3 special purpose vehicle, established by DEWA (60%) and a consortium led by ACWA Power company and the Gulf Investment Corporation for AED2bn (US$570m).
