1 GW unit commissioned at 7 GW Guoneng Zhejiang Beilun power plant (China)

Dongfang Boiler, a subsidiary of the Chinese power equipment manufacturer Dongfang Electric Group, has announced that the ninth unit (1 GW) of the 7.3 GW Guoneng Zhejiang Beilun coal-fired power plant in the Zhejiang province of China had been commissioned after passing the 168-hour trial operation (Dongfang, 04/11/2025).

The Guoneng Zhejiang Beilun power plant, owned and operated by the state-owned China Energy Investment Corporation, includes five 600 MW subcritical units that were commissioned between 1991 and 2000 and two 1.1 GW ultra-supercritical (USC) units commissioned in 2008 and 2009. Two additional 1 GW USC units (units 8 and 9) were included in the "14th Five-Year Plan" and have been commissioned recently, raising the total capacity of the plant to over 7 GW. With the 9th unit operational, the power plant will be able to generate over 40 TWh/year of electricity to ensure electricity demand in eastern China.

Dongfang was the core equipment supplier of the project, designing and supplying an efficient ultra-supercritical secondary reheating boiler system with completely independent intellectual property rights for the power plant. The unit adopts the ultra-high parameter design of "32.5MPa/610°C/625°C/625°C", and is equipped with advanced low-nitrogen combustion, deep peak shaving and flue gas waste heat utilization technology.
