Moldova Renewable in % Electricity Production

The objective goal set in the Moldovan Energy Strategy 2030 to increase the share of renewables in the final energy consumption to 17% in 2020 was overreached (25% in 2020), mainly because of heating (share of 41%), as the share for electricity was only 3% and that for transport 0.2%. In 2021, the share of renewables decreased to 22.3% because of a lower share for heating (37%). Electricity from renewables (mostly from wind and biogas) is expected to reach 17% of the total electricity consumption in 2030 (6% in 2020).

Moldova CO2 Fuel Combustion/CO2 Emissions

In its NDC, Moldova plans to reduce its GHG emissions by 64-67% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels.

CO2 emissions from energy combustion have remained quite stable since 2000, after an 80% decrease between 1990 and 2000 (7.7 MtCO2 in 2022).
