The EU Building Stock Observatory is a project from the European Commission aiming at providing a comprehensive snapshot of the building stock characteristics in Europe for policy-makers, investors, industry stakeholders, energy utilities, local and national authorities as well as researchers, in order to underpin decision-making, financial and long-term strategic support.
The objectives of the project were to collect data from different international and national sources related to 5 topics:
- Building stock characteristics and energy needs
- Envelope performance and technical system
- Certification
- Financing
- Social issues and energy poverty
For communication and dissemination, the consortium have developed 3 tools:
- A database, which gathers all the data related to buildings
- A datamapper, a mapping application to display selected indicators though a more visual medium
- Some topic and country factsheets, presenting information on building characteristics in relation to EU policy requirements
