CO2 emissions from energy use in major countries
Enerdata releases 2008 CO2-energy data for the largest emitting countries
Since 2007, China is the world largest CO2-energy emitter. Apart from Russia, the pace of CO2-energy emissions increase has stabilized or reduced in 2008. Despite high oil prices, China, India and Russia experienced high increases in oil consumption in 2008. In the USA and Japan on the opposite, a strong reduction of motor fuel consumption is observed. The share of biofuels in motor fuel consumption keeps on increasing everywhere. Finally, Europe’s consumption of coal has sharply decreased in 2008.
