Zambia has commissioned a 50 MW solar power plant in Mansa District in Luapula Province (Zambian government press release, 24/04/2026). The Mansa Solar Plant started construction works in February 2025, it features over 1,500 panels and it represents an investment of about USD48m. The project is part of a pipeline of renewable energy projects being implemented by the Zambian government to address the electricity deficit in the country and strengthen energy security.
According to Enerdata’s Global Energy & CO2 Data, Zambia had a total installed capacity of almost 1.2 GW at the end of 2024, of which solar accounted for almost 17%. The country’s power mix is mainly dominated by hydropower, which accounted for almost 80% in 2024.
Zambia aims to reach 10 GW of power capacity by 2030.
