YPF Luz commissions a 305 MW solar project in Mendoza (Argentina)

The Argentinian energy group YPF Luz  has commissioned its 305 MW El Quemado solar park in Las Heras, in the Mendoza province of Argentina (YPF press release, 15/05/2026). The USD211m project was originally developed by Empresa Mendocina de Energía Sociedad Anónima (EMESA) and later acquired by YPF Luz. It is the first of its kind to have been developed under the country’s Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI) and it represents 11% of the country’s solar capacity and 40% of the region’s solar capacity. Now that the project is operational, it should produce enough electricity to supply over 233,000 households and avoid the emission of over 385 ktCO2e/year. The electricity produced will be commercialized to companies, industries and distributors through the Argentinean grid.

The Incentive Regime for Large Investments (RIGI) framework is a regime that offers tax, customs, and exchange incentives to apply to large investments (over USD200m) in strategic sectors.

At the end of 2025, Argentina had a total installed capacity of 48 GW, of which about 2.5 GW corresponded to solar (Enerdata’s Global Energy & CO2 data).
