Wyoming (US) clears TransWest Express power transmission project

The Industrial Siting Council of the State of Wyoming (United States) has voted to approve an application for a permit to construct and operate the TransWest Express (TWE) transmission project, a proposed high-voltage, direct current (HVDC) power transmission line developed by TransWest Express. As of April 2019, the US$3bn project has received its local permits from several counties in Wyoming, Colorado and Utah, with the remaining Utah and Nevada county permits anticipated completed by the 2019. It will have a 1,500 MW transmission capacity, to be phased over time to 3,000 MW. Construction is expected to start in 2020 and the project is expected to be commissioned in 2023.

Upon completion, the 1,175 km line will extend from Wyoming to Nevada and will stretch between south-central Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, and then to the Marketplace Hub near Hoover Dam in southern Nevada, which provides interconnections to the California, Nevada and Arizona grids. It will allow California and other Desert Southwest utilities to directly access high-capacity Wyoming wind power generation. It is expected to entail two systems: a 500kV direct current (DC) system with terminals near Sinclair (Wyoming), and Delta, (Utah) and a 500kV alternating current (AC) system from the Utah terminal to Boulder City (Nevada).
