Woodside signs deal to supply up to 2 Mt/year of LNG to Germany’s Uniper

The Australian gas producer Woodside Energy has signed an LNG sale and purchase agreement (SPA) with Uniper, under which Woodside will supply 1 Mt/year of LNG to the German utility from the Louisiana LNG project in the United States over a 13-year period from the project commissioning, as well as up to 1 Mt/year of LNG from its global portfolio, starting with Louisiana LNG commissioning until 2039. The SPAs are subject to Woodside’s final investment decision (FID) on the three train 16.5 Mt/year Louisiana LNG project. According to Uniper, the deal would support the potential development of additional gas-fired power plants in Germany to complement the country’s renewable build-up.

In 2024, Woodside bought Tellurian, which was developing the up to 27.6 Mt/year Driftwood LNG (renamed Woodside Louisiana LNG), located in the US State of Louisiana and had started construction works in 2022. The project, which would consist of 5 LNG trains developed in phases, would initially include three 5.5 Mt/year liquefaction trains with a combined capacity of 16.5 Mt/year. In April 2025, Woodside agreed to sell a 40% stake in Louisiana LNG to the American infrastructure investor Stonepeak for a value of US$5.7bn.
