Australian energy company Woodside has entered into a 20-year sale and purchase agreement with QatarEnergy for the supply of up to 3 Mt/year of LNG from the Louisiana LNG project in the United States (Woodside press release, 29/10/2026). “Under the agreement, Woodside will supply LNG on a free-on-board (FOB) basis from the start-up of Louisiana LNG Train 2, increasing to 3 Mt/year from the start-up of Train 3,” said the company.
Located near Lake Charles, Louisiana (US), the Louisiana LNG project is currently under construction. Its initial development phase comprises three trains with a combined capacity of 16.5 Mt/year, with first LNG production targeted for 2029.
The war in the Middle East has made it difficult for Qatar and neighbouring countries to supply energy to customers worldwide. QatarEnergy has recently stepped up efforts to secure LNG supplies from outside the Middle East. A few days earlier, the company signed an agreement with Cheniere Energy under which the US LNG developer will supply a combined 4 Mt/year of LNG through to 2054 (KEI, 27/10/2026).
