The Australian energy company Woodside Energy has signed a non-binding collaboration agreement with Saudi Arabia's oil and gas group Aramco to explore Aramco’s potential acquisition of an equity interest in and LNG offtake from the Louisiana LNG project in the United States. Among the exploration of “global opportunities”, the deal also seeks to explore a potential collaboration in lower-carbon ammonia. In late April 2025, Woodside Energy took a final investment decision (FID) on its 16.5 Mt/year Louisiana LNG terminal, located in the US State of Louisiana. The project targets first LNG by 2029.
Additionally, Woodside has also announced the joining together of the topsides and hull of the Floating Production Unit (FPU) for the 8 Mt/year Scarborough LNG project off Karratha, in Western Australia. The vessel is being constructed in separate yards China, and the union of both structures marks a step-forward towards its first LNG cargo, scheduled for the second half of 2026.
