Australia’s Woodside Energy and Turkey's BOTAŞ have signed a sale and purchase agreement (SPA) for the long-term supply of LNG (Woodside Energy press release, 29/12/2025).
Under the agreement, Woodside will supply BOTAŞ with approximately 5.8 bcm of natural gas equivalent, or 0.5 Mt/year of LNG, over a period of up to 9 years, starting in 2030. "This milestone marks the successful conversion of the non-binding Heads of Agreement (HOA) signed in September this year into a binding commitment," the press release states.
LNG will primarily be supplied from the under-construction Louisiana LNG project in the United States, as well as from Woodside’s broader portfolio.
Woodside Energy made a final investment decision in April 2025 for its 16.5 Mt/year Louisiana LNG terminal, which is still under construction, with the first LNG production from the three-train project targeted for 2029 (KEI, 26/09/2025).
Since September 2025, Turkey has increased its LNG supply deals with major energy companies to diversify its supply portfolio, securing approximately 15 bcm of gas for the 2026–2028 period. In total, Turkey has signed contracts through state-owned BOTAŞ with eight suppliers: BP Global (4.8 bcm), Shell (2.4 bcm), Germany's SEFE (1.8 bcm), Italy's ENI (1.5 bcm), Norway's Equinor (1.5 bcm), US-based Cheniere (1.2 bcm), UK’s Hartree (600 mcm), and Japan’s JERA (600 mcm) (KEI, 11/09/2025).
More recently, in early December 2025, ENI agreed to a new deal to supply BOTAŞ with approximately 0.5 bcm/year of LNG for 10 years, starting in 2028 (ENI press release, 03/12/2025).
