Australian oil and gas producer Woodside has made a final investment decision on the Pluto-North West Shelf (NWS) Interconnector, a 3-km-long gas pipeline project connecting Woodside's 4.9 Mt/year Pluto LNG export terminal and the NWS Project’s 16.3 Mt/year Karratha Gas Plant (KGP) in Western Australia. The project is subject to regulatory approvals by the State of Western Australia and finalisation of commercial arrangements with the Pluto and NWS joint venture participants. Construction should start in 2020 and it is expected to be commissioned in the first half of 2022.
The Pluto-NWS Interconnector would be key component of the proposed Burrup Hub, which would integrate the NWS's Karratha LNG plant, Pluto LNG (including its 5 Mt/year expansion expected by 2024), and future projects such as the Scarborough Floating LNG (FLNG) project or the Browse LNG project.
