Woodside achieves first oil at the Sangomar field offshore Senegal

The Australian energy company Woodside has achieved first oil from the Sangomar field located offshore Senegal. The Sangomar Field Development Phase 1 is a deepwater project including a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) facility with a nameplate capacity of 100 kb/d.

The stand-alone FPSO Léopold Sédar Senghor, which arrived in the country in February 2024, has a storage capacity of 1.3 mbl. The facility features subsea infrastructure designed to allow subsequent development phases.

the Sangomar field Phase 1 development, whose cost is estimated between US$4.9bn and US$5.2bn, covers 23 wells, including 11 production wells, 10 water injection wells, and two gas injection wells. Woodside targets 230 mbl of oil production from this first phase.

The start of production at the Sangomar field marks the beginning of oil production in Senegal, whose oil resources are estimated at 136 Mt (end of 2023).
