The Governor of Wisconsin (United States) has signed an executive order including a target of 100% carbon-free electricity consumption by 2050. An Office of Sustainability and Clean Energy will be created to ensure that the state fulfils the CO2 reduction targets of the Paris Agreement and meets the carbon neutrality objective. The state bets on falling renewable technology costs to boost renewable power generation and a power transmission line project that would deliver wind power generation from Iowa to Wisconsin is under consideration.
Some US states are progressively enacting carbon-neutral policies. In June 2019, the Board of Public Utilities (BPU) of New Jersey (United States) released a draft energy plan, which aims to make the state 100% "clean energy" by 2050. The Draft 2019 Energy Master Plan aims to reach a carbon-neutral power generation in 2050 and maximum electrification of transports and buildings in order to meet/exceed greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions of 80% by 2050 (compared to 2006 levels).
