Mallard Pass Solar Farm, a joint-venture between Windel Energy and Canadian Solar, has unveiled plans to develop a 350 MW solar-plus-storage project in the East Midlands of England (United Kingdom). The project, which would be situated across 880 hectares either side of the East Coast Main Line near Essendine, has entered the first phase of consultations. Further environmental assessment and design work will follow, ahead of a stage two consultation on more detailed proposals in 2022, before submitting the applications. Due to its size, the project will be classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP). Windel Energy and Canadian Solar will have to submit a Development Consent Order (DCO) application to the Planning Inspectorate (PINS) to gain permission to build and operate the plant. The Secretariat of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) will then decide whether to grant consent.
