The Australian renewable energy developer Wind Prospect has announced plans for the construction of a 930 MW wind power project in the State of Western Australia. The proposed Twin Hills wind park will comprise up to 140 turbines and be installed near the town of Eneabba, on a 20,000-hectare area. The project will also include a large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS). Wind Prospect is launching feasibility studies for the project, which is currently in the early stages of development. The company intends to submit a development application in early 2024 and expects construction works to take two to three years.
Wind Prospect has so far secured planning approval for 22 wind parks and two solar parks in Australia totalling over 3 GW, with 2.1 GW currently in operation or under construction.
As of end-2022, Australia had over 10 GW of installed wind capacity (100% onshore), representing 10% of the country’s total installed capacity.
