The Wieringermeer wind project completes new milestone (Netherlands)

The Nordex Group has completed the first part (180 MW) of Vattenfall’s 300 MW Wieringermeer onshore wind project, located 60 km north of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Construction started in 2018. The plant is expected to be fully commissioned by end-2020.

In addition, Van Oord has started building the 383 MW Fryslân offshore wind project in the Frisian part of the IJsselmeer near Breezanddijk. Construction of the 89 wind turbines will start in the spring of 2021 and the wind project will be operational in the summer of 2021. In July 20219, Dutch energy utility Eneco signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for all of the power generation from the Fryslân wind power plant.

In 2019, wind power accounted for 13% of the Netherlands’ installed capacity, with 4.5 GW. More than 3.6 GW are currently under construction and 2.4 GW under development as of August 2020.
