VTTI and Snam complete acquisition of the Adriatic LNG terminal in Italy

The Dutch storage terminal owner VTTI and the Italian energy group Snam have completed their acquisition of the Adriatic LNG terminal, a 9.6 bcm/year LNG import terminal, located near Rovigo, in the Veneto region (Italy). Launched in 2009, Adriatic LNG imported 8.5 bcm of LNG in 2023, covering over 14% of Italy’s national gas consumption in 2023. VTTI originally announced its plan to buy a 70.7% stake from ExxonMobil in the terminal in March 2024.

In addition to the 30% stake in Adriatic LNG, Snam holds significant stakes in all the remaining regulated LNG regasification terminals currently operating in Italy, including the Panigaglia terminal near La Spezia, the OLT FSRU Toscana offshore Livorno, and the FSRU Italis LNG in Piombino. In addition, Snam acquired the floating and storage regasification unit (FSRU) BW Singapore in 2023, which is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2025 offshore Ravenna.
