Voltalia commissions a 320 MW solar project in Brazil

France's Voltalia has completed the full commissioning of the SSM1&2 solar project with a capacity of 320 MW in the Serra Branca cluster in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte. Construction was launched in September 2021. Commissioning was progressive, with the gradual installation of solar panels and infrastructure. The plant’s output is sold under long-term power sales contracts signed with a series of buyers, including Braskem, a petrochemical group, and the Brazilian power utility Copel. Since March 2022, the French company is building the adjacent 260 MW SSm3-6 solar project. The Serra Branca cluster has a 2.4 GW potential.

In June 2022, Voltalia unveiled plans to build a new solar project called Arinos with a capacity of 1.5 GW in the Brazilian southeastern state of Minas Gerais. The project is developed for Voltalia's own account and for third parties, with partnerships already signed with CTG Brasil. The company is also developing the Canudos solar project (1 GW) in the state of Bahia. Solar accounts for 7% of Brazil's installed capacity with 13 GW.
