Vingroup plans 52.5 GW of renewable and LNG power projects in Vietnam by 2035

The Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup has submitted plans to develop large-scale renewable energy and LNG-fired power projects in Vietnam over the next decade. Vingroup has proposed to integrate those projects, which would require an estimated investment of US$25-30bn, into Vietnam’s revised Power Development Plan VIII (PDP8).

Vingroup’s proposal focuses on renewable energy development, aiming to deploy 47.5 GW between 2025 and 2035. The first phase, from 2025 to 2030, targets 20.5 GW with an estimated investment of US$20-25bn. These projects would prioritise locations with high wind and solar potential. In addition, Vingroup has proposed to develop a 5 GW LNG-fired power plant in Hai Phong, with an investment of US$5.5bn. This initiative is Vingroup’s first venture into the energy sector.

In February 2025, Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed a new revision of the country’s PDP8, which states that the total installed power capacity nationwide by 2030 is to reach 211.8 GW by 2030, an increase of 56.2 GW compared to the previous version of the PDP approved in 2023. The revised PDP8 also plans for the boosting of renewable capacities.
