The Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) has awarded a second 10-year DDK1.5bn (€202m) loan to the Danish power transmission system operator (TSO) Energinet to finance the construction of the Viking Link, a proposed 1.4 GW high voltage direct current (HVDC) electricity interconnection between Denmark and the United Kingdom. In March 2021, the project had already secured a 10-year DDK1bn (€134m) loan from the same financial institution
The project would consist of two 700 MW lines stretching over 760 km between the substations of Revsing in southern Jutland (Denmark), and Bicker Fen in Lincolnshire (Great Britain). The total project cost for Denmark’s part of the project should be DKK6.2bn (€834m). The first line should be laid in the spring of 2022 and commissioning is expected by the end of 2023.
