Vietnam’s first LNG power complex goes online with 1.6 GW

GE Vernova has announced that the Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 LNG-fired power plants in southern Dong Nai province, Vietnam, have officially entered commercial operation, marking the launch of Vietnam’s first LNG power complex (VN Economy, 09/01/2026).

The power plants, inaugurated in December 2025, were developed by Petrovietnam Power Corporation (PV Power) with a total investment of US$1.4bn and have a combined capacity of 1.6 GW.

Additionally, a GE Vernova press release states, “According to the Adjusted PDP8, an amendment to Vietnam's National Power Development Plan VIII, LNG remains central to the flexible generation mix, with a projected capacity of more than 22 GW by 2030, representing 9.5–12.3% of the national system.”
