Vietnam's Cai Mep LNG terminal receives commissioning cargo from Russia

The Cai Mep LNG terminal, located in southern Vietnam's Vung Tau district, has received its commissioning cargo from Russia. The cargo came from the Sakhalin 2 LNG project in eastern Russia. It was loaded onto the Blue Dragon LNG tanker, which arrived in Vietnam in late May 2025.

The Cai Mep LNG terminal, developed by a joint venture between the Singapore-based AG&P LNG and the Vietnamese petroleum trader Hai Linh Company, has an import capacity of 3 Mt/year of LNG, which could later be doubled to 6 Mt/year. The Cai Mep LNG terminal is Vietnam’s second LNG regasification terminal, after the 1 Mt/year Thi Vai terminal developed by Petrovietnam Gas, which was officially put into operation in late 2023.

Vietnam notably plans to build 15 LNG-fired power plants by 2035 with a combined capacity of more than 22 GW, accounting for nearly 15% of the country’s total power generation mix.
