Vietnam’s 3 Mt/year Cai Mep LNG import terminal enters commissioning phase

Cai Mep LNG, a joint venture between the Singapore-based AG&P LNG and the Vietnamese petroleum trader Hai Linh Company, has announced the start of the commissioning phase of Vietnam’s second LNG regasification terminal. The Cai Mep LNG terminal, located in Vietnam's southern Vung Tau district, has an import capacity of 3 Mt/year of LNG that could later be doubled to 6 Mt/year. Cai Mep LNG is on track to start commercial operations in September 2024.

Vietnam’s first LNG import terminal, the 1 Mt/year Thi Vai terminal developed by Petrovietnam Gas, was officially put into operation in late October 2023. Vietnam plans to build 15 LNG-fired power plants by 2035 with a combined capacity of more than 22 GW, accounting for nearly 15% of the country’s total power generation mix.
