The Vietnamese government has announced the start of construction of the 350 MW Soc Trang 4 wind power plant in Can Tho City (southern Vietnam) (Vietnamese government press release, 19/05/2025). The VND14.5tn (USD550m) project consists of 56 wind turbines (each with a capacity of 6.25 MW) to be installed on an area of over 1,223 hectares, including a 220 kV substation with a capacity of 4x100 MVA and 2.7 km of connecting transmission lines, expected to be completed and put into operation in the fourth quarter of 2028. Once operational, the project is expected to supply approximately 1,174 GWh/year of clean electricity to the national grid. The project is being financed by Soc Trang 1 Energy Investment Joint Stock Company.
The country has approved the development of 56 projects with a combined capacity of over 9,154 MW in Can Tho City, among which there are 30 wind power plants with a total capacity of about 2,785 MW.
