Malaysia’s Energy Minister has announced the advancements of a 2 GW offshore wind project linking Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore (Malaysian government press release, 22/10/2025).
- The project consists of two phases; the first one includes the construction of the wind power plant and undersea cables connecting Vietnam to the Malaysian Peninsula.
- The second phase includes the installation of land connections through Cambodia, Laos and Thailand.
Of the planned 2 GW, 700 MW are expected to be used domestically, while the remaining 1.3 GW will be exported to Singapore via national transmission lines. The project is expected to start operations in 2034. The Malaysian government plans to participate as a shareholder or as the leaser for the land and electricity pole route for the project.
